Watershed District Managers reviewed the design for restoration of a severly eroded ravine off of Highway 95 in Marine on St. Croix at their meeting on February 13. District Engineers and the Administrator have been working closely with local property owners to find a solution to the problem that is supported by them starting with a neighborhood meeting last May.
After reviewing several concepts with problems of access or excessive disruption to the wetlands and bluff, Engineers presented 60% design drawings for the installation of a full length pipe outside of the existing ravine that minimizes damage to existing trees and disturbance to existing contours.
The plans will be submitted for approval to the Minnesota Department of Transportation who is helping to fund the project along with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency with a Federal EPA grant. The project will be bid in April or May with construction planned for this summer.
